The Infants and Mothers Program is designed to provide preparation for
single, pregnant adolescents or mothers, ages 15 to 21. The program is licensed
by the Department of Human Resources and serves adolescent females statewide in
the DHR’s custody.
The pregnant adolescent and teen mother will be provided a parenting
preparation program to enable her to develop and/or improve basic living
skills. It is hoped that by participating in this program, the mother will
be able to nurture the mother-child bonding process. She is expected to be
responsible for the day-to-day care of the infant and to continue her
education while living in our group home.
Life at the Infants and Mothers Program
The dedicated staff of the Infants and Mothers Program seeks to teach basic
living skills such as child care, nutrition, personal hygiene and money management.
This long-term residency for teenagers (15-21 yr. olds) helps youth from
dysfunctional families get to a point of independent living.
The program addresses numerous issues, such as behavior education,
anger management, mental health rehabilitation and various life skills. A
youth can be in the program for up to 6 years or until the age of 21. The
program works with numerous agencies to provide living expenses, child care
services and ongoing education, and strives to obtain employment for the young
women.
The staff works 12-hour shifts and celebrates Holidays with the young women
who otherwise wouldn’t have anywhere to go.
